IELTS Speaking Part 1: Introduction & Interview

Examiner: Hello! Welcome to the speaking test. Can you tell me your full name?

Candidate: Hello! My name is Diana.

Examiner: Where are you from?

Candidate: I’m originally from Russia, but now I live in Serbia.

Examiner: Do you work or study?

Candidate: I work as a fashion designer. I create custom-made clothing, and I am planning to study fashion in Spain.

Examiner: Do you prefer casual or formal clothing?

Candidate: It depends on the situation. For daily life, I prefer comfortable, well-fitted casual clothes. But for special events, I love elegant, well-tailored outfits.

Examiner: How do you usually choose your clothes?

Candidate: I consider the fabric quality, style, and comfort. I also try to choose sustainable materials whenever possible.

Examiner: Do you think fashion trends change too fast?

Candidate: Yes, definitely! Fast fashion brands release new collections almost every month, which is bad for the environment. That’s why I support slow fashion.

IELTS Speaking Part 2: Long Turn (Monologue - мода и устойчивость IELTS)

Describe a fashion trend that you like. You should say:

  • What the trend is

  • How you learned about it

  • Why you like it

  • And explain whether it is popular in your country

Candidate’s Response:

One fashion trend that I really like is sustainable fashion. It focuses on creating clothing in an environmentally friendly way, using recycled or organic fabrics and ethical production methods.

I first learned about sustainable fashion while researching new materials for my own designs. Many famous designers, such as Stella McCartney, promote sustainability in their work. Social media and fashion blogs also talk a lot about eco-friendly fashion.

I like this trend because it reduces waste and pollution in the fashion industry. As a designer, I believe it’s important to create beautiful clothes that don’t harm the planet. Instead of buying cheap, disposable clothes, people should invest in high-quality, timeless pieces that last for years.

In Russia and Serbia, sustainable fashion is not very popular yet, but more young people are becoming aware of its importance. In Spain, where I plan to study, there is a strong movement towards eco-friendly fashion, and I hope to learn more about it there.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Discussion

Examiner: Why do you think people follow fashion trends?

Candidate: People follow fashion trends because they want to express themselves, feel confident, or fit in with society. Social media and influencers also have a big impact on what’s popular.

Examiner: Do you think fashion is an important part of culture?

Candidate: Yes, definitely! Fashion reflects a country’s history, traditions, and values. For example, in Spain, flamenco dresses are a symbol of cultural heritage, while in Japan, the kimono represents elegance and respect for tradition.

Examiner: Some people say fast fashion is harmful. What’s your opinion?

Candidate: I agree. Fast fashion leads to pollution, poor working conditions, and too much waste. Instead, we should support brands that use ethical production methods and sustainable materials.

Examiner: How do you see the future of fashion?

Candidate: I think the future of fashion will be more about sustainability and technology. We will see more 3D-printed clothes, smart fabrics, and eco-friendly alternatives like plant-based leather. Designers will focus on quality rather than quantity.
