Examiner: What kind of people do you think make good startup founders?
Student: I think successful founders are often visionary and determined, but also flexible and open to feedback. They need to be both logical and emotionally intelligent to build strong teams and adapt to challenges.
Examiner: Do you prefer working alone or in a team?
Student: I prefer working in a team, especially when each person brings something unique. In biotech, it's essential to collaborate with people from different backgrounds—like biology, chemistry, and data science.
Part 2: Cue Card — Describe How to Build a Strong Team for a Biotech Startup (IELTS стартап биотехнологии)
You should say:
what kind of startup you have in mind
what types of people would be in your team
how you would choose them and explain why building the right team is important for success.
Student (monologue): If I had the chance to start a company, I would definitely choose biotechnology, maybe focusing on early cancer detection or personalized medicine. This kind of project needs a well-balanced and interdisciplinary team.
When forming the team, I would select people not just based on skills, but also on their type of intelligence. For example, someone with strong analytical intelligence would be perfect for research and data analysis. A person with intuitive intelligence might generate creative solutions when experiments fail. Someone with ethical or emotional intelligence would be excellent in leadership or communication with investors and regulators. Finally, a person with practical intelligence could help manage daily operations and workflow.
Building a startup is like putting together a living system—each person is like an organ with a special function. If the team is well-matched, with complementary strengths, the startup can survive pressure, learn fast, and grow in the right direction.
In my view, selecting a team this way increases the chances of innovation, resilience, and long-term success.
Part 3: Discussion and Deep Reasoning
Examiner: What challenges do biotech startups usually face?
Student: Biotech startups often face long research phases, strict regulations, and high costs. It can take years before a product is approved or profitable. That’s why choosing the right team is crucial—everyone must be motivated, persistent, and willing to learn new things constantly.
Examiner: How do you think biotech will influence our future?
Student:I believe biotech will become one of the key industries in the 21st century. It can help solve global problems like chronic diseases, food shortages, and climate change. For example, we might soon see personalized treatment plans based on DNA, or eco-friendly bacteria that clean polluted water.
Examiner: Do you think schools should teach more about entrepreneurship and teamwork?
Student:Yes, definitely. Many students are creative, but they don’t know how to turn ideas into action. If schools taught more about teamwork, leadership, and business basics, more young people could start meaningful projects. I think this is especially important in fields like biotech, where collaboration is everything.
